Find out what it was like to be Britain’s eyes and ears during the Second World War as current Senior Aircraftwoman (SAC) Claire Cullen chats to RAF veteran Avis Parsons.
Mrs Parsons was a World War II Radar Operator who helped defend our skies when this revolutionary technology was first used to warn fighters of approaching enemy aircraft. Her secret radar station was bombed but she stood by her post because if she didn’t keep passing information to Fighter Command, the RAF’s fighters would be unable to intercept enemy bombers.
SAC Claire Cullen is an RAF Communications and Information Systems Specialist. She met Mrs Parsons to talk about what it was like serving with the RAF during the war. You can compare their roles to see how times have changed and read about the attack that led to Mrs Parsons being awarded the Military Medal for Bravery.
