Typhoon in Top Gear TV Tournament
The team behind one of television’s most popular fast car shows thought it would be a great idea to race a 250 mph Bugatti Veyron, the world’s fastest street-legal car, and the twice-the-speed-of-sound Typhoon multi-role fighter, set to be the backbone of the RAF for the next 30 years. The result is a breath-taking filmed sequence which will be aired during the new Autumn series of BBC 2’s popular "Top Gear" programme, aimed at fast car buffs, this one scheduled for Sunday, 28 October 2007. Don't miss!

RAF provides vital help in flood rescues
We’ve all seen how bad the floods have been this summer but for some of our personnel it means getting into some of the worst hit areas to aid relief and save lives. Battling raging torrents and working against the threat of collapsing buildings, RAF Sea King crews saved more than 100 people trapped by severe floods after heavy rain and high winds battered Sheffield and northern England. Chinook helicopters have also been used to transport tons of sandbags to help against the rising water levels.

Jaguar bows out
As the RAF deploys its stunning Typhoon fighter jet, a classic is flying off into the sunset. The Jaguar has been a mainstay of operations since the early ‘70s and although it has had loads of updates over the years to keep it at the cutting edge of technology, it was finally decided to phase it out in favour of the more agile Typhoon. But don’t worry - the Jaguar will continue to wow the crowds at summer airshows for many years to come.

Oliver’s high flying birthday
Oliver Cowling from Aberford probably had a new Play Station game high on his birthday wish list, but as his mum looked for an original present for his 14th birthday, a charity event offered the real thing – a flight in the Tucano simulator at RAF Linton-on-Ouse. Oliver's parents bid £2500 for him and his brother Tom to have an unforgettable day and on hand was Pilot Officer Nick Callinswood who guided Oliver through the controls before they took a virtual flight over the Lake District. He said "It was great; everything looked a bit different from 500 feet above the ground. The best bit was going upside down."
