Red Arrows Day Out

Red Arrows Day Out

It’s time to meet the Red Arrows

RAF Scampton is the current home of the Red Arrows aerobatic team and the group was looking forward to seeing their heroes in action. An impressive line-up of Hawk aircraft had been towed out in readiness for an air display and the prize winners were able to see them close up.

Typically, the Red Arrows fly 6 half hour slots in a day and every slot is filmed and then reviewed for training purposes.

After viewing the Hawk aircraft, the group were shown a DVD depicting the Red Arrows at their spectacular best and which explained the formation of the Red Arrows team. The group also found out about their training regime and the recruitment criteria.

Red Arrows Day Out

Unfortunately bad weather meant that the Red Arrows were unable to fly. However, the Altitude prize winners were given a rare treat… the chance to meet each of the Red Arrow Pilots in person and to climb inside one of the iconic Hawk jets.

The Red Arrows team arrived together and were happy to answer lots of questions, chat and sign autographs.

SAC Alison Hucker, a member of the Red Arrows ground crew, also gave a talk about the technical aspects of the aircraft, including the distribution of the trade mark red, white and blue vaporised smoke that the aircraft trail behind them.

Souvenirs to treasure and a great day out

By the end of the day, everyone had had a great time. The group took home some great souvenirs, as well as a calendar signed by the Red Arrows Pilots. They have all since received their own copy of a group photograph taken with the Red Arrows – the perfect souvenir of a memorable day…
