Young players enjoy RAF Rugby Festivals and meet Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) national players

DECORATION. The RAF recently ran some fantastic Rugby Festivals across Wales, which lots of young people attended throughout May.

Over 1,000 players from junior club teams, representing the Ospreys, Blues, Scarletts, Dragons and North Wales regions, descended on rugby pitches at Dunvant, Abercynon, Narberth and New Panteg. While celebrating the end of the season, the players also showed off their skills to international players and scouts who attended the festivals, including Jonathan Thomas, Robin Snowden-Taylor, Mark Jones and Kevin Morgan.

Tsungai, 14, from the Mumbles squad, said of the Dunvant Festival on 3 May: 'I really enjoyed today and meeting Jonathan Thomas was definitely a highlight!'

Robin Snowden-Taylor, at the Abercynon Festival, said: 'I think it's great that the RAF sponsors grassroots rugby. I've seen my old squad, Pentyrch, playing today and met my old coach, so some players might end up playing for Wales in the future too.'

Dale McIntosh, Head Coach for Cardiff Under-16s and an ex-international player, also attended the day to look for future talent.

'These RAF Rugby Festivals are very worthwhile competitions because they create fixtures that aren't usually played, making the players raise their game. The standards of local rugby are improving each year and it's down to competitions like these,' said McIntosh.

One lucky player at each festival also won £200 of JJB Sports vouchers, courtesy of the RAF.
