SPORT SPONSORSHIP

DECORATION.

Here are just some of the enthusiastic remarks made by participants in some of the sporting events held by the RAF sports sponsorship team.

Basketball Camp at RAF Linton-on-Ouse

“I really enjoyed learning new skills. Some of them I’d never done before! I’ve learned so much and it’s been a great day. Being in the RAF sounds good – it’s really sporty and there are lots of different types of jobs.”
Ryan, 13

Hockey Camp RAF St Athan, South Wales

“I liked the development skills session because my group worked really well as a team.”
Sophie, 13

Rugby camp at RAF St Athan, South Wales

“I enjoyed the team building sessions because it helped us work together better.”
Daniel, 15

“I really enjoyed the team building tasks, the day was really well organised and we were made to feel welcome. I learned that the RAF isn’t just about flying aircraft, but you can do other things too.”
Rhys, 15

Football camp at RAF Brize Norton

“I really enjoyed the coaching we got. I’ll definitely think about being in the RAF when I’m older – I want to be a fitness instructor and you can do it in the RAF.”
Nicole, 13.

“I’ve always really wanted to join the RAF, and after today I want to join even more! We’ve had such a great day!”
Isaac, 13

The camps in detail

  • Designed to develop basketball, football, hockey and rugby teams at a grass roots level Sessions are run by RAF and sports association coaches, who are on hand to help improve skills and teach new drills
  • Provide funding, competitive national leagues and tournaments and access to equipment and facilities
  • Some camps held on RAF bases, letting players develop their skills in a new environment and experience life on an operational base – including lunch with serving personnel in the junior rank’s mess halls
  • At the camps, the RAF’s Motivational Outreach Teams (MOTs) and Careers Officers run sessions to help improve communication skills and teamwork

“It’s great to see young people learning interpersonal and teamwork skills that will set them up for life. These clinics provide a fantastic opportunity for young players to brush up on their sports skills and they’re always great fun. We’re thrilled to be able to invite young players on to our bases.”
